Many hollywood movies are filmed in Utah because of the diverse scenery.

Antelope Island

Info

Contributed by FunAroundUtah

Antelope Island State Park, the largest island in the Great Salt Lake, is home to a roaming herd of 500 bison. Pronghorn and bighorn sheep also share the rangelands that overlook the desert lake. Opportunities to view wildlife are available on backcountry trails, which are open to horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking and cross-country skiing. Please keep in mind that pets on leash are allowed on the island except on the Frary Peak trail. A visitor center offers information on the island's unique biology, geology and history. Please be aware that, during the month of May and part of June (usually until the weather reaches 90 degrees), Antelope Island has biting gnats (or "no see'ums"). Wear a hat or light hoodie and protect your face and neck with bugspray. Insects on the causeway are midges that don't bite, and brine flies along the lake's edge are harmless.

WE went here in early June. The weather was overcast, but once on the island it cleared up making for gorgeous views of the lake and surrounding areas. We drove on all the roads, and I recommend you do the same! We had our 2 year old son with us, and the bugs were pretty nasty so we did not do any hiking. It is highly recommended that you bring LOTS of bug spray and go on a day when there is a cool breeze to keep the bugs away.

Went there today (March 31st) and had a great time. Bugs were not bad at all, but they will get worse later in the year. It is fun to wade out into the water and you definitely want to check out Fielding Garr Ranch. Lots of hands-on fun for the family. Oh and check with the SL County Library if you are local. If you are lucky you can check out a State Park Pass that gets you into the park free. Then it only costs $2 for the causeway to get out there.
