Salt Lake City was originally named Great Salt Lake City. Great was dropped from the name in 1868.

Blue Lake Hot Spring

Blue Lake is the largest of several clear deep hot spring fed lakes/ponds with a depth of approx 58 feet deep. With a winter surface temperature of 76 degrees Blue Lake is very popular for Scuba-Divers from November thru May.

Directions:
Take I-80 west to Wendover, Nevada. At the 2nd Wendover exit, the one after you have gone through the notch in the mountain, turn left, then left again onto the main street of Wendover. Drive 1 block and turn right (south) on Alt-US-93 (heading towards Ely). Watch for the "Blue Lake" sign about 15 miles later. Take the dirt road east (left) 7 miles, back into Utah, and you will be at Blue Lake.
